Description

This framed lithograph by artist Danny Day was produced in January 1998 as part of a limited edition of 380. Hand-numbered #49, the piece is personally signed in pencil by both Day and Tony Gwynn. The composition captures Gwynn’s quiet intensity and refined approach at the plate—qualities that helped define his two-decade career. According to MLB records, including postseason appearances, Gwynn faced 18 Hall of Fame pitchers over 541 plate appearances—essentially a full season—and still batted .331/.371/.426.

He hit above .300 in 19 of his 20 Major League seasons, with even his rookie-year .289 average outpacing most hitters by modern standards. Danny Day’s artwork pairs visual precision with Gwynn’s unmatched consistency, marking this as a distinct tribute to one of the game’s most respected hitters.
