Description

A key milestone in DJ Yella’s production career, this official Billboard plaque recognizes “Supersonic” by J.J. Fad reaching No. 1 on the Hot Dance Music 12-Inch Singles Sales chart in 1988. Rather than commemorating units sold, the award highlights the record’s chart position—marking it as a breakout hit in club and dance markets during a formative moment for Ruthless Records.

Produced by DJ Yella and Dr. Dre, “Supersonic” was the debut single from J.J. Fad and the first commercially successful release on the Ruthless label. The track fused electro bounce with club-ready rap and became one of the earliest nationally recognized female-led hip hop singles. Its crossover success earned a Grammy nomination and helped raise the visibility of both Ruthless and women in rap.

The framed plaque features the official Billboard chart page showing the track at No. 1, a reproduction of the single’s artwork, and a personalized dedication to DJ Yella. His signature appears on the outer glass of the frame.
