Description

Awarded by Ampex to Antoine “DJ Yella” Carraby, this Ampex Golden Reel Award honors N.W.A.’s Niggaz4Life album for being recorded on Ampex mastering tape and achieving notable commercial success. Ampex created the Golden Reel to spotlight high-performing albums tracked with their studio-grade reels, long regarded as the industry standard for professional analog recording.


Niggaz4Life was N.W.A.’s final studio album and their first to debut at #2 on the Billboard 200 before reaching #1. It was one of the most controversial releases of 1991, combining Dre and Yella’s dense, sample-heavy production with some of the group’s most aggressive lyricism. The album's sound design helped define early '90s West Coast hip-hop—and reinforced DJ Yella’s legacy as a technical force behind the N.W.A engine.


The award plaque features slight color fade on the etched text and wear consistent with long-term storage.


The engraved name plate is slightly displaced but remains securely attached. Please refer to images for condition.
