Held at Jacobs Field in Cleveland, the 1997 All-Star Game honored the 50th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking baseball’s color barrier, with the special patch adding historical significance to the jersey.


While this jersey would have been worn by players for festivities surrounding the game, such as the Home Run Derby, players wore their respective team jerseys during the actual All-Star Game itself. In the game, Gwynn batted second and served as the designated hitter for the National League, continuing his dominance at the plate and adding to his Hall of Fame career.
